Reverie Candle x The Sound of Sickle: Sickle Cell Awareness Candle Making Event

At Reverie Candle, our workshops have always been about more than just making candles. We create moments of connection, our Dreamers learn something new and we ensure giving back is a quarterly action. Our recent Sickle Cell Awareness event with The Sound of Sickle was a powerful reminder of how creativity and community can come together for a meaningful cause.

Held at The Black Farmer in Brixton, the evening brought together candle making, conversation and education in one of South London’s most vibrant spaces. The Black Farmer provided the perfect backdrop for an event rooted in culture, storytelling and togetherness.

The event was hosted in partnership with our friends at The Sound of Sickle, an initiative dedicated to raising awareness around sickle cell and amplifying the voices of those affected by the condition. Sickle cell is the UK’s fastest growing genetic condition, yet it remains widely misunderstood and underrepresented in mainstream conversations.

Throughout the evening, Dreamers had the opportunity to learn more about sickle cell in an open, welcoming environment, while taking part in a calming, hands-on candle making workshop. Education and creativity sat side by side, making the experience both informative and enjoyable.

Dreamers were guided through the process of creating their own soy wax candles, choosing fragrance blends that felt personal and meaningful to them. As always, the room was filled with laughter, thoughtful conversations and the unmistakable calm that comes from working with your hands.

Proceeds from the event were donated to a charity close to The Sound of Sickle’s heart, My Friend Jen, a sickle cell education and awareness charity, supporting vital work within the sickle cell community. Every candle poured helped to fund awareness, support and advocacy.

Brixton has always been a place where culture, creativity and community collide, and this event was no exception. From first-time candle makers to returning Dreamers, the room was filled with people who came curious and left more informed, more relaxed and deeply connected to the cause.

Chris from The Sound of Sickle brought important conversations into the space, ensuring that awareness remained at the heart of the evening without ever feeling heavy or inaccessible. It was education delivered with care, honesty and warmth.

This event reaffirmed why we do what we do. Candle making can be a powerful tool, not just for relaxation, but for bringing people together around issues that matter. If you joined us, thank you for being part of something special. If you missed it, keep an eye out for future events that continue to combine scent, storytelling and social good.

Because when creativity meets community, real change can begin.
