What Does London Smell Like?

What Does London Smell Like?

There is something quietly magical about discovering a city through the eyes of those who call it home. It is why we are so delighted to share that Reverie is now available to book via Airbnb Experiences.

For those unfamiliar, Airbnb Experiences are curated moments hosted by locals who know their cities intimately, offering travelers something beyond the expected. Not simply sightseeing, but memory making.

At Reverie, we have always believed fragrance tells a story. Scent and memory are deeply intertwined, capable of transporting us back to a feeling, a moment, even a version of ourselves. A familiar fragrance can bring everything rushing back in an instant. The warmth of a summer evening. The laughter shared over dinner. The feeling of discovering somewhere entirely new.

Now, visitors to London can leave with more than photographs on their camera roll. They can create a candle that becomes a keepsake of their time here. A fragrance to revisit, long after they have returned home. Each time the wick is lit, perhaps the memories of wandering through London streets, quiet cafés, spontaneous moments and beautiful conversations return too.

One Airbnb guest reminded us exactly why this experience matters.

She reached out before her workshop, explaining that English was not her strongest language. At Reverie, we care deeply about ensuring every Dreamer feels considered and welcomed into our world. Luxury, to us, is found in thoughtfulness.

So, inspired by the kind of intentional hospitality synonymous with the world’s finest maisons, we translated our workshop materials into Arabic so she could feel entirely comfortable throughout the experience. We also curated a thoughtful list of London recommendations for her to enjoy after the workshop, hoping to make her solo trip feel all the more special.

In preparing those recommendations, something unexpected happened. It made us pause and reflect on London itself.

There is something about recommending your city to someone seeing it for the first time that makes you fall in love with it all over again. It reminded me that perhaps I appreciated London most before I lived here, when every corner felt cinematic and full of possibility. And it made me wonder whether my own chapter here may be approaching its final pages.

It also left me asking an unexpected question: what does London smell like?

Perhaps the answer is not universal but deeply personal.

Maybe the scent of London is not the city itself, but the fragrance you wore during your happiest moments within it. The perfume lingering on your scarf after late night conversations. The scent tied to who you were while living your story here.

Perhaps that is the real souvenir.

Our Arabic Dreamer instinctively gravitated towards our Luxe Collection, rich with oud inspired notes that felt beautifully familiar to home. In many ways, her candle became a bridge between two worlds, a memory of London infused with the comfort of something recognisable.

And now, somewhere in Saudi Arabia, a candle waits to be lit. A small reminder of a solo trip to London, of stepping into something new, and of the memories made along the way.

At Reverie, this is what we hope to create. Not simply candle making workshops, but moments worth remembering.
